Lacrosse team earn first win
Bermuda Lacrosse Association have returned home with their first victory in international competition.
An Island squad recently took part in the RILAX Ocean State Classic tournament in Newport, Rhode Island where they finished with a record of one win, two losses and a draw.
The victory marked a first for an organisation still in its infancy and hoping to popularise the sport in Bermuda.
The BLA's next step will be to prepare a team of Bermudian students for next summer's Under-19 World Championships in Canada.
The recent tournament saw Bermuda face a tough battle against Mt. Ida College in which they clawed their was back from a three-goal deficit, equalising late in the game. Due to time restrictions designed to keep the tournament on schedule, there was no sudden-death overtime.
Bermuda, however, lost their next game to a tough Tailgators team before going down 8-5 to the Rebel Lax team from Baltimore, a match in which they trailed 5-0 at one stage.
But the Island team ended the event on a high when they defeated the tournament hosts, the Rhode Runners, 11-2.
The BLA are still seeking new players and are particularly interested in finding students to join the Under-19 squad preparing for next year's World Championships.
