Rowers impress in match race regatta

Twenty two local scullers from Bermuda Rowing Association enjoyed match racing as the club hosted its July regatta on Sunday morning off White's Island in Hamilton Harbour.

Eight races, featuring 17 crews, competed over the 500 metre course. Competitors ranged in age from 13 to 60 and in experience from two weeks to several decades.

"Rowing offers fitness and competitive opportunities to all ages and fitness levels" said Canadian coach Jim Ganley, in Bermuda this month to help develop local rowers.

"I was very pleased with the all of the performances, particularly the novices who have only been rowing since the middle of July," said Ganley.

The club will host its second summer regatta on Sunday, August 12, again off White's Island.

Bermuda Rowing Association president, Michael Swain said: "We are very fortunate to have attracted a coach of Jim Ganley's quality to Bermuda to assist in junior development and from whom we learn many new coaching techniques."
