Kaelen and Cannonier steal the show
Canadian Dylan Kaelin is relishing the challenge of local rider Aaron Cannonier as the pair are set to battle one last time on the final race day of the holiday motocross series tomorrow after an exciting day of racing at Southside racetrack yesterday.
The pair thrilled the crowd with their see-saw battle that saw both riders claim victory.
Kaelin won the first and last moto, while Cannonier won the second to set up a pulsating final day in the 250cc expert class.
The day was a far cry to how Kaelin dominated the Boxing Day meet when he won all three races in his class to sit on top of the leaderboard.
But Cannonier pushed him the whole way yesterday, with the Canadian hailing the Bermudian's abilities on the track.
"Aaron has been great competition for me all week, he has been riding hard and it is good to see somebody who races on an island have the ability he does," said Kaelin.
"He is an honest racer and it has been a great time between us out there.
"Last Sunday the wind wasn't that bad, although that's not an excuse as he had to deal with it too, but today it was really testing.
"In the second moto I had a fall after I had passed him and got a little over anxious going into the corner and lost the front end, which was my own mistake and is a part of racing.
"But with that being said that was the best moto we have had all week.
"We have been hanging out a bunch this week and have become good friends, so hopefully the weather holds up on Sunday and we can get some good racing in.
"It is a really good thing they have going no here."
AJ DeGraff also dominated his category yesterday, winning two of the three races in the 250cc novice class, while Dale Foreman won the other race in that class.
Canadian female riders, Ami Houde and Whitney Locken, also had a productive day in the novice class, although neither came across the finish line first.
Jyrie Mitchell ran away with the 80cc class as he won all three of his motos.
With most of the races in the respective classes are going down to the wire, tomorrow's action should prove anything but dull.
Racing begins at the Southside track at noon.
Admission for children is $5, and adults are $10.
