14-goal Onions peel apart Peskies to secure top spot

MR Onions made up for their midweek loss to Key West with an emphatic 14-1 thumping of Somerset Bridge Peskies on Saturday which keeps them ahead of the pack.

Colin Keane netted seven ? mostly with his head ? while strike partner Eoghan O?Dwyer got a brace.

He was replaced at half time by Nick Briggs who also netted with a diving header at the near post and a tidy left-foot curler from the edge of the box. John Lally, Mike Neville and Chris Fleming completed the rout.

Peskies scored from the spot after a clumsy challenge by Steve Ludgate on Lloyd Telford who emphasised his claim with some Italian-style rolling.

The one-sided spectacle at White Hill was watched by a contented Lobster Pot side who had come back from a 2-1 deficit at half time to beat Valley 3-2. Two defensive errors let Valley in while Colin James slid in for Pot?s first.

Sensing their title hopes slipping Pot tore into it in the second half with Dave Allison volleying in from a Jameel Effendy corner while Mike Johnston got on the end of a cross from sub Joe Carolo for the winner.

Key West are viewed by many the best team in the league on their day but Saturday was not their day as they went down 9-1 to Tuff Dogs after starting with just ten men because many of their key players were missing due to illness, injury and work commitments.

Jamel Lovell and Jeff Franklin both bagged hat-tricks, Carlos Lopes got two while Ryan Gaglio got one. Webster Mills scored the Key West consolation.

BAA put four past PHC without reply with two from Martin Jones, one from player-manager Tommy Gribbin and one from Ian Freidman.

Robin Hood beat North Village 4-2 but did it the hard way.

Playing initially against eight men, Dan Miller fired the Merry Men ahead with a piledriver that drew incredulity from team-mates and coaches.

Hood completely dominated, a Maceo Hunt missed penalty for Village aside, but couldn?t increase their lead.

But in the second half, with Village now up to 11 men, they took advantage of a defensive mistake by Dave Kinnersley with Hunt scoring on a breakaway.

Hood were then spurred into life going comfortably ahead thanks to a brace from Massimo Tirotta with Alex McLaughlin grabbing the fourth, before missing a sitter.

Village rounded off the scoring from the spot.

In the B division, Dandy Town Roots were held to single figures against Vasco on Saturday but still triumphed 8-2.

Darren Simons got a hat-trick, Sean Smith got two while Michael Wells, Paul Can and Walter Musson chipped in. Paul Frias and Michael Bean replied for Vasco.

Second-placed St. George?s dropped two points at Hamilton Parish who took a 2-0 lead with Jude and Irving Burgess on target. Lionel Cann replied before the break and strike partner Herbie Bascome was ejected for foul language.

In the second half Parish?s Irving Romaine put a Stevie Dickerson cross through his own net to level things but Sean Dill put Parish back in front.

St. George?s piled on the pressure after Parish?s Cory Hill was sent off for foul language with Cann hitting the post and having another effort well saved.

However his persistence paid off as he finished off a Stevie Denbrook cross to tie things at 3-3 with Parish recording their first draw of the season.

St. George?s are still undefeated but their slip hands the title advantage to Dandy Town ahead of their six-pointer clash next week.

Boulevard took advantage of an under-strength and demoralised Somerset Extros with a 12-1 victory. Cleve Rogers grabbed a hat-trick, Estan Joel got two with Shane Grant, Troy Smith, Mitchell Trott, David Simmons, Wayne Richardson and Keith Fleming getting one each while Extro?s Matt Taylor got his customary own goal. Ed Lightbourne got Extro?s consolation but his team, which started with eight men, was fielding just six fit players at the end.

Pest Control and Devonshire All-Stars fought out an all-action goalless draw with both keepers performing heroics to pick up clean sheets.

But there were goals galore in the other two fixtures. Dockyard Falcons stuffed Prospect/Fire 9-1. Dwayne de Rosa and Devrai Bradshaw were first on the score sheet for the Falcons but Dean Richards clawed one back before the break. It was one-way traffic in the second period with Prospect down to eight men. Roger Williams bagged a hat-trick as one goalmouth melee after another ensued in the busy Prospect 18-yard box.

Sean Symons buried a decent left foot drive from 25 yards for one of the better goals of the game. De Rosa added a couple to take his tally to three before substitute Charles Card picked up his second goal of the season.

Prison Officers aren?t used to racking up big wins but their ten players put 15 past eight man Wolves. Keith Hannah and Marvin Trott got three each, Mike Lambe and Denton Leader both bagged a brace while Dwight Richards and Reginald Codrington also piled in. Shannon Tuzo got the Wolves? effort.
