A win and a loss for U15s

Bermuda lost to the US by two runs in the highly-abridged final of the Under-15s Americas Championship in Florida yesterday ? though coach Grant Smith will not be losing any sleep over the result.Play was finally possible after the parks in the Fort Lauderdale area were opened following the passing of Tropical Storm Ernesto. But the tournament was reduced to a 20-20 competition because most of the teams were due to fly home first thing this morning. Early in the day, Bermuda beat a combined regional team by eight wickets. The regional team scored 91 for six off their 20 overs and Bermuda knocked them off for the loss of two wickets and with five overs to spare.

The final against the US last night was reduced to 15 overs aside with frequent wind and rain interrupting proceedings. The Americans batted first and scored 80 in their allotted overs while Bermuda narrowly missed the target with 78.

The final few overs, however, were played in the pouring rain and with a lightning storm threatening ? a wet end to a frustrating tour.
