Absentees could be axed, says BCB chief

Bermuda Cricket Board president Reggie Pearman has hinted that those national team players who did not turn out against the touring Barbadian team could be omitted from national squads in the future.

Although pointing out that no official decision had yet been reached, Pearman conceded he was “extremely disappointed” that Bermuda's best cricketers did not use the recent opportunity to challenge themselves against top overseas opposition.

He said the issue would be addressed at the next meeting of Board officials, with the option of excluding those players, without a truly valid excuse, from future national team squads “a possibility.”

“Their absence from the tour games is something that greatly concerns us at the Board,” he said.

“I'm not going to say anything for definite until we have all had a chance to sit down and talk about it but we will be considering all the options, including future omissions.”

“This sort of problem was exactly what I was talking about when I spoke in depth to The Gazette earlier this summer,” he continued, “and I am deeply concerned that it continues to hamper our efforts to develop.”
