Africa trip extended
Pressure from the Kenyan cricket authorities has led to an extension of Bermuda?s upcoming tour of Kenya and South Africa starting in late October ? with the national team now set to be abroad for just under five weeks.
Gus Logie?s men were originally scheduled to leave the Island on November 6 for two Intercontinental Cup games against Kenya and Holland plus at least seven ODIs.
However, because of Kenya?s crowded schedule around that time, the Bermuda Cricket Board have agreed to the Kenya Cricket Association?s request to shift the four-day Intercontinental Cup game in Nairobi forward.
It will now take place between November 5 and 8, followed by three ODIs on November 11, 12 and 14 in the coastal city of Mombassa, which boasts Kenya?s newly-accredited international ground.
The dates for the South African leg of the trip remain the same, with Bermuda due to play another Intercontinental Cup game against Holland in Pretoria from November 21 to 24, swiftly followed by more ODIs from November 26 to December 2 against the Dutch and Canada.
The adjustment in dates creates a spare week in the middle of the tour where Bermuda have no scheduled matches, with Logie revealing yesterday that the team will spend that time training at South Africa?s High Performance Sports Centre in the capital Pretoria.
And given the long and varied nature of the trip, Logie added they will be looking to take a squad of around 16 players ? with preparations set to get underway today following a couple of weeks off after the team?s Americas Championship triumph last month.
?We?ve got an extra week in the middle there which as it turns out will actually give us an opportunity to recover and maybe play a couple of friendly matches before the Intercontinental Cup game against Holland,? Logie said.
?We were supposed to start training again on Monday but obviously the hurricane prevented that, but things will soon be starting in earnest.?
