AGM back on ? but without accounts
Bermuda Football Association?s (BFA) Annual General Meeting could resume next Wednesday night at Police Recreation Club minus an audited financial report, revealed the association?s president Larry Mussenden yesterday.
After a request had been forwarded by BFA affiliates asking for the AGM to resume at the earliest possible date, Mussenden announced yesterday that a special meeting will be held at Police Club one week from today, beginning at 6.30 p.m., where affiliates will be given the opportunity to decide whether or not to proceed with the AGM.
The BFA chief also disclosed that an ?update? of this year?s financial report will be presented to affiliates as the final report has still yet to be completed.
?The meeting comes at the request of some of the affiliates who sent a written request asking for the meeting to resume as soon as possible,? Mussenden stated in a press release.
?The letter was considered at an executive meeting last Wednesday. At the special meeting, affiliates will be asked to consider resuming the AGM that night, therefore, proceeding immediately with the AGM business and elections.
?An update on the preparation of the audited financial statements will be provided as the statements are not yet completed. But the work required to complete the audit is in progress and is a high priority of the BFA.?
Yesterday?s announcement came one-day shy of the six-week period in which Mussenden said the association?s AGM could possibly resume after last month?s meeting ended prematurely when BFA treasurer Delroy O?Brien showed up without a financial report.
Affiliates later voted in favour to adjourn the AGM until an audited report could be presented to the floor. According to reliable sources, the association has failed to produce financial reports at the previous two AGMs.
Following last month?s adjourned meeting, Mussenden placed the blame for the lack of a report at this year?s AGM on a ?computer glitch? at the association?s Cedar Avenue headquarters.
The BFA chief is expected to be challenged for the presidency of local football?s governing body by former national coach Mark Trott ? who has gathered the strong backing of a group of former top BFA administrators including two honorary BFA vice-presidents ? when the AGM finally resumes.
Mussenden added: ?The business of football has continued with the start of the senior leagues, women?s leagues, youth leagues, cup competitions and courses. And we further recognise the social value that football contributes to our community and to the overall success of our society.?
In the lead-up to last month?s adjourned meeting, battle lines were clearly drawn when retired BFA executive Robert Calderon claimed the local game had ?slipped into an abyss? under the current administration while Mussenden went on the counter-attack by labelling the group seeking to oust him from office as ?deserters?.
Former national coach Trott has refrained from making any comments to .
