Neil Paynter has been re-elected for a second term as president of St.George?s Cricket Club.

Paynter was successfully returned to the top post during last week?s Annual General Meeting held at the East End club.

Other executives retaining high-ranking positions were vice president Freddie Hall, treasurer Debra Christian and secretary Veronica Edwards. The only change saw Michelle Smith voted in as assistant secretary.

Management committee chairpersons Lewis Foggo, Stephen Burgess, Ross Dowling, Laurence Brangman, Gregory Smith and Lloyd Van Putten also all retained their respective posts.

During a first term in office Paynter oversaw upgrading of the club?s electrical and plumbing utilities, restoration of changing room facilities and the main field following a motocross event, the damage from which put Wellington Oval out of commission for several months.

Now, the 36 year-old executive has even bigger plans in store for the East End club.

?One of our major goals is to make St.George?s Cricket Club a more community oriented club. We would like to implement programmes which will bring the entire community together and make St.George?s the premier club in the East End and then hopefully the entire Island,? he said.

Other plans could see floodlighting installed to enable the club to host day and night cricket matches as well as football games, and the erection of grandstand, said Paynter.

?We are looking to host more events that will encompass the whole community. We just want to make our club accessible to the entire community,? he added.

According to the president, executives received a ?strong? vote of confidence from members at last week?s AGM.

?A few things are starting to turn around and we are beginning to do more positive things for the community. So judging by the way they (members) voted us back en bloc, I think they gave us a strong vote of confidence.?
