And now back to the soccer
The focus should return to football tonight as Dandy Town take on Somerset Eagles with only a win good enough to earn them a second league title in three seasons.
The fate of this title decider was in the balance until the Bermuda Football Association confirmed the ?show would go on? despite the violence that threatened to bring a premature end to the 2003-4 season.
Sunday?s events at Wellington Oval left the BFA having to hold emergency meetings with the member clubs on Monday to decide how the season should be completed ? with the title decider the hot topic.
Despite rumours of the match having to be played ?behind closed doors?, the fixture in which Town need three points to wrest the title away from current leaders Devonshire Cougars is set to go ahead as planned.
Heavy security will be put in place for the game with spectators expected to be randomly searched and the BFA have insisted ?absolutely no spectator cars? will be allowed through the gates at BAA.
Town have already had one chance to wrap up the title but former player Janeiro Tucker came back to haunt them, scoring twice to leave Town?s champagne on ice after a 2-1 loss to Southampton Rangers.
Anything short of a win for Devar Boyles? men tonight would hand the Cougars a first-ever championship.
And tonight?s opponents Eagles, who were one of the sides playing in Sunday?s Friendship Trophy final, should prove a tough opponent for Town, having already beaten the Hornets twice this season.
?No loss is encouraging but the lessons are there,? said Boyles after the defeat to Rangers.
?So with the loss the players will do a lot of self-analysis of their performances, and I think the combination of what they do and what the coaching staff bring up will hopefully culminate in the desired result.?
Tonight?s match-up with Eagles will be the third attempt to get the game played this season, earlier matches in January and March were called off first for an off-the-ball incident and then due torrential rain made that decision for him at half-time in the next encounter.
Before the 9.30 p.m. title decider, Southampton Rangers take on North Village, the other side involved in Sunday?s abandoned clash, at 7.30 p.m. in a relatively meaningless game.
?Let?s keep our fingers crossed there is no more trouble,? said Eagles coach Gary (Tuba) Mallory yesterday.
?We just want to see some football.?
