Angry Town seek arbitration ruling

Disgruntled over Bermuda Football Association?s decision to boot them out of the Friendship Trophy, Dandy Town have now taken their case to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) arbitration tribunal.

Speaking to for the first time over the ongoing dispute, Town coach Devarr Boyles yesterday described the Association?s final ruling to oust Hornets as ?totally unacceptable?.

?We are certainly not satisfied with what appears to be the outcome . . . but not the final outcome as it relates to the match being defaulted by Dandy Town in the Friendship Trophy. So we are taking our grievances to the next level which is the arbitration process at the Ministry of Youth and Sport,? said Boyles.

Should the club fail to get a satisfactory decision from the ADR, they would then consider taking their case to court, revealed the coach.

?The next step after that would be to take it to court but we have been advised to wait because the tribunal hasn?t met as of yet,? Boyles continued. ?We have been told that it would be to our advantage not to divulge any information to the press prior to them having the opportunity to peruse the information without the media?s spotlight on it .?

Hornets had originally called a press conference at their St.John?s Road club facilities on Thursday but later had it postponed.

Town drew 2-2 against North Village at St.John?s Field on January 9 in the Friendship Trophy quarter-final after extra-time. However, referee George O?Brien erred in ruling a replay instead of adhering to competition rules which stated penalty kicks should have taken place.

After being ordered by Bermuda Football Association to settle the issue in a penalty shoot-out 48 hours later at Devonshire Recreation Club, Town failed to turn up, leaving the BFA with no option but to oust them from the competition.

Referee O?Brien and linesmen Tracy Adams and Curtis Richardson all apologised for the blunder but were each deducted half of their match earnings.

Boyles added: ?We don?t want to undermine the process and that?s why we called off the press conference and so I apologise for calling wolf.

?But basically this is where we are at and all I can say at this time is to watch this space because something is coming.?

Town, meanwhile, are set to resume their bid for a second successive Premier Division championship when they host lowly Somerset Eagles at St.John?s Field tomorrow.

The Hornets have already defeated Eagles twice this season, 3-1 last October in league play and more recently 4-0 during last December?s Champions Cup Tournament.

The defending FA Cup and league champions are also fresh off a hard-fought scoreless draw against visiting Brazilian side, Santos, last week.

However, the team will be without the services of in-form ?keeper Cymande Davis and central midfielder Ty-Ron Douglas as Davis is currently off Island while the latter remains sidelined through injury.

Still, Eagles should find the defending league champions a tough nut to crack on their home turf.

Other weekend Premier Division match-ups see second placed Devonshire Cougars away to Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval, third placed PHC Zebras away to fifth-placed Boulevard at BAA Field, while sixth-placed Somerset Trojans host fourth-placed North Village tonight at Somerset Cricket Club.

In First Division action tomorrow, an interesting top-of-the-table clash involving leaders Devonshire Colts and second-placed Ireland Rangers is slated for BAA Field. Colts presently have a three-point lead over Rangers but the West Enders have a game in hand.

Elsewhere, third-placed St.David?s are away to seventh-placed Paget at White Hill Field, fourth-placed St.George?s are away to Wolves at the Den, Social Club host Prospect at Bernard Park while Hamilton Parish host X Roads Warriors at Lords.
