Ankle injury rules Ball out of action

PHC Zebras, decisively beaten in their opening Dudley Eve match by Wolves, will again be without the services of one of their most promising prospects for the future as Johnny Ball continues to recover from a foot injury.

However, Jahnai Raynor made a second-half return to action during the team's loss after suffering the same fate as Wolves' Mark Ray and Devonshire Colts' Aljame Zuill, who were also in involved in recent road accidents.

Ball, a former Bermuda Under-17 international and promising opening batsman for Warwick Workman's cricket team, has played a big part in PHC's success early in the season, coach Mark Wade bringing him off the bench to help strengthen the defence.

"In our last league game against Devonshire Colts, Ball twisted his ankle going into a tackle and a post-game scan revealed that the youngster had in fact chipped bones," said Wade.

"The cast which he is presently wearing is just a precautionary measure to immobilise the ankle and hasten the recovery process. I expect him to be unavailable for team selection until mid-January."

Meanwhile, veteran schemer Kenny Mills, also a noticeable absentee from the Zebras' line-up, is reported to be still nursing a knee injury and is highly unlikely to feature in the holiday tournament, while Devonshire Colts, PHC's next opponents on Sunday, will be without the services of midfield player Kuma Smith who was sent off during his team's loss to Devonshire Cougars on Tuesday night.

Former Wolves women's goal ace Raneika Bean has taken her scoring exploits across the Atlantic where she is now a leading player for the Howard Bisons in Washington DC.

Bean, a freshman at Howard University, recently returned home for the Christmas break, coming off an impressive first season by placing in the top four women's goal-scorers in the league.
