Argyle impressed by schoolboy Robson
English League Championship side Plymouth Argyle are casting an eye over Bermuda-born schoolboy Sam Robson.
The 12-year-old, who attended Gilbert Institute before moving to England two years ago, has sufficiently impressed the west country club to be invited to attend a six-week trial at their youth academy.
Son of Royal Gazette sports editor Adrian Robson, the young midfielder was recommended to Plymouth by coaches at his Churston Ferrers School and his Devon Youth League side, Paignton Pilgrims.
Robson was watched by a Plymouth scout at his last youth league match when he hit a second-half hat-trick for the Pilgrims, helping to rally his side from an early 2-0 deficit to a 6-2 victory.
Following trials with Plymouth, Robson could become one of the youngest players to join the club's academy on a permanent basis.
"He's pretty excited about getting this chance but he understands there are no guarantees anything will come of it," said Robson Sr., who was in England to watch his son's last match and meet with the Plymouth scout.
"But if nothing else he's got the opportunity to work with some professional coaches and, for a short time at least, work in a professional set-up. He can only benefit from that.
"At the end of the six weeks the club will let him know whether they think he's good enough to remain at the academy, which would mean he would have to give up his current junior side and sign exclusively for Plymouth.
"We'll just have to wait and see."
