Young Ashley Brooks has strengthened her hold on the top spot in women?s tennis.Capturing the Ladies? ?A? title at the Argus Open stretched the teenager?s lead at the summit while in the men?s rankings Jenson Bascome took back pride of place from Andy Bray as the former savoured the Argus limelight.

There was good news for other players in the latest Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association rankings as Tracey Berrell ? a surprise Argus finalist ? jumped to a high of number five while Caitlin Gordon, despite falling injured, moved up to number four thanks to a victory over number two Morgan Lightbourne in the early rounds.

Argus semi-finalist Gavin Manders also edged ahead of Bray in the standings, followed by the again inactive James Collieson. The other semi-finalist, David Jenkins, is ranked five with Brent Smith rising to sixth.

Argus ?B? winner Tony Thompson and runner-up Na?im Azhar (Na?im also reached the ?A? quarter-finals) have climbed briskly to numbers 13 and nine respectively.

In Men?s Doubles, top-ranked Andy Bray and James Collieson advanced to a perfect three for three this year, repeating their Pomander victory over joint third Bascome and Manders, this time in two sets. Argus semi-finalists Roger Marshall and David Jenkins edged up to fifth.

In Ladies? Doubles top-ranked Laverne Stowe and Ashley Brooks took their second successive title, this time over Tara and Jacklyn Lambert who rose to number seven.

In Mixed Doubles, it was d?j? vu at Argus in a repeat of the Pomander Island Construction final where experienced number ones Stowe and Bascome prevailed over Brooks and Manders who improved to number two.
