Award is in safe hands with Daniel

James Jardine, AS&K chief executive, hands over a gift certificate to Bermuda Under-17 team goalkeeper Daniel Johnson for his man of the match performance in the first leg of the World Cup qualifier against Cuba. Looking on is Under-17 team coach Kenny Thompson.

The accolades continued to pour in for Bermuda Under-17 national team goalkeeper Daniel Johnson yesterday.

During an award ceremony held at Cumberland House, the 16-year-old Berkeley Institute student became the grateful recipient of $500 in book and sporting equipment certificates as well as recognition from proud youth football sponsors AS&K.

On hand to present the talented teenager with the man-of-the-match award was AS&K Chief Executive Officer James Jardine.

Johnson was an obvious choice for the award as it was his exemplary performance between the 'sticks' during last Saturday night's Under-17 World Cup qualifying first-leg match against Cuba at the National Sports Centre which kept Bermuda's hopes of advancing very much alive.

Bermuda and Cuba battled to a scoreless draw to set the stage for what promises to be an exciting showdown in Havana. Team Bermuda headed off for the Caribbean today to begin preparations for Sunday's all-important second-leg clash at Campo La Polar.

"AS&K is very pleased to be associated with the excellent work that the BFA is doing in the Youth Development Programme," said Jardine.

"We are delighted to make this presentation and well-deserved award to Mr.Johnson and congratulate him on how well he used his skills and talent to help maintain Bermuda's chances in the World Youth Cup competition. He and his team-mates have done the Island proud."

Upon thanking the sponsors a confident Johnson says he is up to the task in the second leg.

"On behalf of my team-mates and coaches I thank you all for this award and when we get to Cuba I hope we will all play hard," said Johnson.

Meanwhile, Bermuda's coach Kenny Thompson, also present for the award ceremony, added: "The Bermuda Football Association is very happy to see our young footballers get this type of recognition and we are also proud of what they have managed to achieve thus far.

"We appreciate the contribution AS&K has made to our initiatives."
