Awards for Island's top athletes

The top Male and Female Athlete of the Year will be crowned tonight at the Annual Sports Awards ceremony at the Southampton Fairmont Hotel.

Sports Minister El James will host the event, which saw triathlete Flora Duffy and cyclist Tyler Butterfield scoop the top awards 12 months ago.

Among those who could be vying for the Male Athlete of the Year awards are New England Revolution footballer Khano Smith, cricketer Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock and equestrian Patrick Nesbitt.

Triathlete Duffy, boxer Teresa Perozzi, long jumper Arantxa King and equestrian Jill Terceira could be in the running for the Female Athlete of the Year award.

There will also be a number of other awards up for grabs including the Special Achievement Award, Bermuda Sport Citation Award and Appreciation Award.

For the first time the general public will be allowed into the awards show, which will be shown live on TV on ZBM from 7 p.m.
