Ball hockey showdown
Bermuda Ball Hockey Association will host their sixth semi-annual ball hockey tournament this Saturday at the Pembroke Community Centre.
Forty-five players on six different teams will compete for the championship title and the privilege of having their names inscribed on the Robin Hood Cup.
Action begins at 8.30 a.m. with round-robin play continuing all day and culminating with the championship final scheduled for late afternoon.
A player draft, held last Monday, determined the composition of each team for the tournament.
Eric Bertrand, who was prolific in helping the Bermuda Select team capture fifth place at the World Ball Hockey Championships held in Toronto in June, was selected first overall in the draft.
Many within the BBHA agree that the teams are competitively matched.
"Not one team appears to be a clear runaway to win - it is shaping up to be a nailbiter right down to the championship game," said Darren Anderson, Commissioner of the BBHA.
"Our draft format makes for the best competition possible. Spectators can look forward to enjoying some great action."
The tournament will be another warm-up for many participants as the league intends to send a contingent of players to compete in next June's European Cup to be held in Munich, Germany.
