Ban on Cougars pair overturned by ADR panel

Bermuda Football Association?s ban on Devonshire Cougars? strikers Raymond Beach and Heys Wolfe has been overturned by a Ministry of Youth and Sport Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) arbitration panel.

Although details remained sketchy at press time last night, learned that the arbitration panel ? headed by Reginald Rawlins ? had ruled in favour of Devonshire Recreation Club on the grounds that the association?s emergency committee had failed to adhere to standard procedures during the two players? disciplinary hearings earlier this year.

It is understood the two players were never formally charged by the association prior to their hearing.

Both players had been banned until January 1, 2005, for their involvement in a heated verbal spat with former national coach Kenny Thompson and BFA second vice-president Gregory Grimes at the National Sports Centre in February of this year.

Officials at the Premier Division club had taken their case to the ADR after a BFA appeals committee had crushed a previous appeal.

However, it remained unclear last night whether or not the two players ? arguably the most potent attacking duo in local football ? would be able rejoin their team-mates in time for Sunday?s crucial league clash with Dandy Town at St.John?s Field.

When contacted last night, BFA general secretary David Sabir declined to make any comment or indicate what course of action, if any, the association would pursue while officials at Devonshire Rec also remained tight-lipped over the latest chapter in the ongoing saga.

But according to reliable sources, the case involving Beach and Wolfe must be re-examined under a ?ratified? procedure and any subsequent action taken as per BFA rules and bye laws.

As such, another disciplinary hearing involving the Cougars pair could be pending once the association?s emergency committee?s procedure for disciplinary hearings is ratified by affiliates.

The ADR panel was comprised of chairman Rawlins, lawyer Larry Scott and Vaughn Mosher.

Meanwhile, it is understood Devonshire Recreation Club have already sought clearance to have their two main strikers back in the line-up for Sunday?s important clash with Hornets while the BFA ponder their next move.

In recent years Beach and Wolfe have proven to be an invaluable asset at the Den where they have accounted for the bulk of their team?s goals.

Though the pair have been sidelined through suspension, both Beach and Wolfe have still been training on a regular basis at the Den.
