Bank donation helps resurface rollerblading rink

The dangerously-rutted surface of the rollerblading rink at Pembroke Community Club has been completely re-laid thanks to a donation from the Bank of Bermuda Foundation.

The original concrete surface was over 10 years old and was beginning to become a hazard for the 125 children enrolled in the Bermuda Inline Hockey Association's (BIHA) junior programmes which take place on the rink.

BIHA run clinics for children between the ages of four and 15, with the season beginning in October and running through to March.

Bank of Bermuda Foundation director David Lang said yesterday said that they were happy the children could now play the sport at a much safer venue.

"This is now a great facility that provides a safe, healthy and competitive environment where children can learn the fundamentals of inline hockey and enjoy team participation," he said.

"Bank of Bermuda Foundation is pleased to partner with those sporting agencies that provide positive youth development and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. We hope that the new inline hockey rink will further enhance the ability of the Bermuda Inline Hockey group to grow in both demand and popularity."
