Bascome honoured in US
Bermuda Davis Cup player Jenson Bascome has won a prestigious college sports awards in the US.
The 21-year-old student of Temple University, Philadelphia, was named Atlantic 10 Conference Student/Athlete of the Year for tennis.
The award is based on both sporting achievements and academic results and the Atlantic 10 Conference comprises around a dozen schools.
"I'm very happy about it and I think it's the top award for any student/athlete from Temple," said Bascome.
Bascome was only able to play in the spring term for Temple's tennis team but still chalked up more singles victories than any other player and ended with an 11-3 record.
Bascome has played in Bermuda's last two Davis Cup campaigns.
He is studying for a BA in psychology with a minor in French and intends to take a doctorate in physical therapy in the future.
