David Bascome has decided to give his ?old bones? one more year in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Bascome, whose Baltimore Blast claimed a second title in three years at the end of last season, admitted he was considering retirement after a 15-year career that has seen him reach the very pinnacle of the indoor game stateside, including passing the 1,000 point milestone last season.

But even with the extra workload being created by the formation of the new Island Soccer League here next summer, Bascome has decided to play on for one more year with the Blast at the 1st Mariner Arena.

?I talked to club officials and we have decided to give it one more year,? said Bascome.

?I am going to drag these old bones out one more time. I still feel I have something to offer as a player and I am not quite ready to give it all up yet.?

Bascome revealed that, similar to boyhood friend Shaun Goater in his final year at Southend, he would be playing an unofficial mentoring role with the Blast?s younger players.

It was thought Bascome was going to retire to concentrate on ISL duties, particularly with so much work still to be done for the launch of the small-sided league which promises to bring a whole new level of discipline and professionalism to Bermuda soccer.

Bascome has extended the deadline for players to sign up for the league to this November, hoping to improve on the 30 or so players already registered and hit his 250 target.

The will combine take place in November, giving the eight coaches a chance to peruse the local talent ahead of the draft early next year.

?If players don?t sign up, there will be no league,? added Bascome.

?This league is a chance for change here and if players don?t want that change then they will make that clear by not signing up. I am not worried, I have spoken to twice the number of players who have already signed up and I know that we will get our numbers.?
