Bascome?s Blast lift another MISL crown

Bermuda veteran David Bascome claimed his second Major Indoor Soccer League crown in three years yesterday, helping the Baltimore Blast to a golden goal victory over the St. Louis Steamers.

Bascome, a perennial All-Star who passed the 1,000 points mark earlier this season, added the title to the one he lifted with the Blast in 2004 after a goal by Machel Millwood separated the teams in additional time after the second leg of the play-off finals.

Bascome?s Blast had claimed the first leg 4-2 in Baltimore on Friday but went down 4-1 yesterday in Missouri to set up a golden goal decider due to the MISL?s system of ignoring aggregate goals.

The Blast had needed a golden goal strike in the semi-finals ? a match in which Bascome was concussed after being hit in the face blocking a shot ? against Milwaukee Wave and did so again yesterday, with Millwood once again the hero after just over eight minutes of the first period of extra-time.

It was the Blasts? third title in four years, although Bascome only joined the Maryland outfit in 2004.

Bascome is likely to continue for one more year in the MISL before coming back to Bermuda to run the Island Soccer League, his new professional six-a-side venture.
