Battling Blazers clinch title

Boulevard wrapped up the First Division title in dramatic fashion at BAA Field yesterday when they came from behind to outscore closest rivals Somerset Eagles 4-3 and thus affirm their Premier Division status next season.

"I feel like a kid in a candy store right now," exclaimed jubilant Boulevard coach John Rebello. "It is a great feeling . . . today was payday for all the hard work that we have put in. It's just great for the entire Blazers' community."

After falling behind against the run of play early in the first half to two brilliant solo efforts from Eagles forwards Ian Raynor and Rodre Wilson, Boulevard set about repairing the damage through Keith Jennings who scored midway through the half.

Immediately following the break, both Mitchell Trott and Robert Wilson were on hand to provide a killer one-two combination, the pair scoring with powerful headers at the back post to give the Blazers a 3-2 lead.

Tekeyhi Walker then became the grateful recipient of a incisive through pass from Melchisedec Gibbons and unleashed a wicked drive that found its way past Eagles `keeper Adrian Burrows.

Darin Dowling pulled one back to bring the west enders to within a goal and Eagles were unfortunate not to equalise during the latter stages after enjoying much of the possession.

Social Club 1 Hamilton Parish 9

Parish kept their promotion hopes alive yesterday as Irving Burgess blasted five goals past their last-placed opponents at Bernard Park. Also among the goals for Parish were Shawn Dill with two, Dwayne Astwood and Darnell Smith.

Social Club did well to keep the score down to 2-0 at the half, but once the Parish forwards found their touch it wasn't long before the floodgates opened.

Paget 0 Ireland Rangers 2

A goal in each half at White Hill Field saw Ireland Rangers edge a determined Paget side. Melvin Brangman gave Rangers a 1-0 lead after eight minutes and Jermaine Saltus got their second after 68 minutes.

Prospect 2 S. Rangers 1

This closely fought match at Police Field saw all of the goals come in the first half. Jason Raynor put Rangers ahead 1-0 with a penalty after just seven minutes only to see Phillip Bailey snatch the equaliser for Prospect five minutes later. Then Vic Ball got what proved to be the clincher for the home team after 18 minutes.
