Beach is the Cup hero

Raymond Beach scored the winning goal that saw reigning champions Wolves eliminated from the Martonmere Cup at Devonshire Rec. last night.

The Devonshire Cougars striker headed home a cross by Heyes Wolffe from 10 yards to settle the issue in a game that ended 2-1 at 12.15 a.m.

The strike in extra-time came after 108 minutes and capped a remarkable fightback by Cougars who had fallen behind 1-0 to a Mark Ray goal after 21 minutes.

Cougars clawed their way back after 60 minutes when centre-back Shawn Smith converted a penalty after Kori Goddard was fouled by Wolves' defender Jamel Simmons.

Meanwhile, a missed penalty by substitute Darren Simons cost Dandy Town a place in the final as they went down 5-3 on spotkicks to North Village after the teams had drawn 2-2 after 90 minutes and could not be separated by extra-time.

Lionel Furbert, Town's skipper, and Paul Cann netted for the Hornets while substitute Jawan Thomas and Jamal Boyles scored for Village in regulation time.
