Bermuda boys finish second in Trinidad

But earning the runners-up spot in the event, which they haven?t won for seven years, plus the girls fifth-place finish put the short-handed Island team into third overall.

?We have to be happy with our results in the end,? said coach Ross Triffit, whose team were forced to spend last night in Miami after their flight home from Trinidad was delayed.

?Considering we came into this competition with some last minute withdrawals due to injury, I think we did very well.

?There were some good performance from a lot of our young players and it has been a great learning experience for all of them which bodes well for the future.?

The men?s final went down the the last match after victories for Chris and Andrew Stout, brothers of pro James, and defeats for William MacKenzie and Robert Maycock, but Michael Shrubb came up short against Guyana?s top junior Stanley Marcus.

Shrubb, who claimed the Under 19 individual trophy earlier in the week, had beaten Marcus in the semi-final of the individual event but also lost to him in Bermuda?s 3-2 group stage defeat to Guyana.

But in the final Shrubb was hampered by a pulled muscle in the second game which restricted his movement, eventually going down 4-9, 4-9, 2-9.

Reaching the team final had been a creditable achievement in itself, with the boys overcoming home town favourites Trinidad 3-2 the previous days in some emotionally-charged contests played out in front of a partisan crowd.
