Bermuda tweak squad for final match-up
Irvine Romaine, wicket-keeper Jekon Edness and Flatts allrounder Philip Burgess are the three changes that have been made to Bermuda?s 13-man squad which takes on Barbados in their final tour game at Somerset Cricket Club this afternoon.
Del Hollis, Dean Minors and young seamer Stefan Kelly make way for the trio, with the latter having returned to school in the UK over the weekend.
The game marks the end of a very successful five game tour of Bermuda by the Bajans, who have recorded three victories to date ? including a ruthless display against the Windies over the weekend ? and only one defeat.
Bermuda, on the other hand, have yet to record a victory over their professional opponents, although team confidence has been buoyed by a number of creditable displays, particularly in the field.
The brittle nature of the batting, however, still remains a concern.
Discussing the changes to the squad with yesterday, captain Clay Smith said that the selectors were trying to strike a balance between maintaining the team?s quality and giving opportunities to as broad a range of players as possible.
?These games have been about giving our players as much exposure as possible to high class cricket,? he said.
?As we prepare for Ireland next year it is important to have a really good look at all of our options and that involves having a look at different players in these friendly games.
?What we are trying to do, though, is also make sure the quality of the team is not compromised in any way by the changes we make and we have had a pretty solid core of senior players involved in every game.?
The match is a day/night affair and gets underway at 3 p.m.
St.George?s were crowned the Premier Division Two Day Champions on Saturday after rivals St.David?s failed to show for the scheduled bowl-out in the tea-break of the West Indies Barbados match.
Similarly, relegation to the First Division was the fate of Cleveland, as they also failed to turn up for their bowl-out with Devonshire Rec.
The controversial regulation, which was approved by Bermuda Cricket Board?s technical committee over the winter, had to be employed after rain ruined the final two-day play-offs on August 7 and 8.
All conquering Social Club defeated Flatts by two wickets on that final weekend to claim the First Division title and ensure their promotion.
