BFA offer cup final incentive

North Village and Devonshire Cougars' players will have an added incentive when they step out for next Monday's Martonmere Cup Final at St. David's.

For the first time Bermuda Football Association will nominate a Most Valuable Player (MVP) who will be presented with a trophy after the game as well as a travel voucher.

Charles Clarke, chairman of the BFA's League and Cup competitions committee said yesterday: "We feel it's long overdue if we are going to bring about change in the game from a professional perspective.

"We've decided to provide new incentives for our players who make the sacrifice to their clubs. This is our way of expressing gratitude, and hopefully we can build on this initiative to further assure players that their efforts and contributions are appreciated."

"I'm anticipating a good game," added Clarke, who is an avid Cougars supporter. "It's been a long awaited rematch between these two clubs. The last time Cougars reached the Martonmere final back in `79', Village defeated them 1-0, courtesy of a Eugene (Hammer) Simmons goal."
