BFA to choose leader
Larry Mussenden is expected to become the new president of the Bermuda Football Association this evening.
It is believed the prominent barrister will run unopposed when the Association's annual general meeting recovenes after a lengthy adjournment.
The meeting is being held at the Young Men's Social Club, its delay brought about in part by the sudden resignation of then president, Neville Tyrrell.
Tyrrell surprisingly stepped down just a year into his three year term in the hotseat. He has kept his counsel as to just why he decided to resign, but it is rumoured there was a groundswell of discontent at the way he was running the organisation.
It had been suggested that Tyrrell jumped before he was pushed and that the move was a political ploy - a bid to see what, if any, support he had among the association's affiliates.
Word on the grapevine was that he might even opt to run again if a viable candidate did not come forward to fill the void he left.
That person has now revealed himself in the form of Mussenden and it would be somewhat surprising, though not unthinkable, for someone else to now step out of the shadows.
Subject to being elected, Mussenden is expected to reveal his blueprint for the BFA shortly, while Tyrrell, if he remains the past president, has said he will spill the beans about his time at the helm once the dust has settled.
Meanwhile, the first football action of the new season takes place at the weekend.
The annual Charity Cup matches are being held at BAA Field on Sunday.
A 6 p.m. Rude Girls take on Royals, while at 8 p.m. reigning League champions Dandy Town line up against Devonshire Colts.
The following Tuesday sees the start of the Martonmere Cup.
