Big night on the lanes
Tonight?s action at Warwick Lanes will be important for those competing in the annual American Airlines Bowling Spectacular as players can begin booking their spot in the finals.
Tournament rules dictate that bowlers must play in a minimum of six of the nine weekly tournaments and place in the top fifteen in any one of them to be eligible for the finals in both the handicap and scratch divisions.
And tonight marks the sixth week of the competition.
In the past five weeks, 52 of the 105 players have placed in the top fifteen and it is expected that as many as two thirds of the total field (70) will qualify.
?One has to be determined to get on the top fifteen list? said tournament director Lionel Dowling, ?but at the same time players should not get discouraged if they fail to qualify because good cash prizes are paid out weekly and there will be a ?Non-qualifiers Tournament? taking place at the same time as the finals.
?Players can actually still enter the tournament for the first time and take advantage of the weekly cash prizes.?
LeVinc Samuels was the star last week when he bowled a high series of 758 in the handicap division.
He was followed by Rochelle Harvey (721), Fred Darrell (720), Hilton Hayward (710), Loderick Holder (706), Clyde Burgess (694), Jackie Miller 694) and Wayne Kelly (693). High games were rolled by LeVinc (301) and Laura Simons (274).
In the scratch division it was LeVinc again who led the way with a 692 series, and he also won the second game prize with a high of 279.
Kevin Zuill won the first game with 227 and Jackie Miller the third with 268. These two were also the second and third place high series winners with Miller rolling 679 and Zuill 659.
