Big-serving Rusedski leads Open parade
Only three players in the top 100 are heading to Bermuda for next week's XL Open ? with British Davis Cup star Greg Rusedski easily the biggest name in the draw.
Despite his ranking of just 105, the big-serving Canadian-turned-Brit is a player capable of beating the tennis world's top players on his day.
And, on paper, he would have to be the tournament favourite with only four players in the rankings above him, with Peruvian Luis Horna the highest-ranked at 59.
The only other players in the top 100 are 2001 champion Jose Acasuso (73) and 2002 semi-finalist Hyung-Taik Lee, Korea's number one, and the world's 91st best player.
Others who local tennis fans might be familiar with include American Brian Vahaly and promising Canadian teenager Frank Dancevic.
"Only three players from the top 50 can enter a Challenger event," explained an XL Open Press statement, sent out to answer the frequently-posed 'where are the big names' question.
"But if there is a higher-tiered tournament that coincides with the Challenger, then the higher ranked players are obliged to play in that.
"Therefore it is unlikely that you will ever see players such as (Andy)Roddick, (Andre) Agassi, (Roger) Federer and (Lleyton) Hewitt at our tournament because they are ranked too high.
"However we may see the future top ten in the world in Bermuda on their way to the top."
