Super-sub Anthony Webb sealed victory with his first touch but it was a bittersweet evening for Wolves last night.

Dennis Brown's men went three points clear at the top with the win but they also had Chae Simmons sent off in disgrace at BAA Field.

It remains to be seen what disciplinary action Wolves and/or the Bermuda Football Association will take but there is no doubt that Simmons' actions in casting his shirt to the ground after being dismissed for foul and abusive language deserve a punishment greater than just the obligatory suspension.

Yellow-carded by referee George O'Brien in the 35th minute for dissent, you felt it was inevitable the St. George's' youth product would talk himself into further trouble.

And right on the half-time whistle he did, O'Brien showing a straight red card after the number nine apparently had a verbal altercation with an opponent.

Rather than accept the decision with grace, Simmons continued to argue and had to be restrained by a couple of teammates. Before finally deciding to leave the field of play he took off his shirt and dropped it to the turf, St.George's' forward Herbie Bascome retrieving it and handing it to the Wolves' bench but not before uttering remarks that seemed to centre around Simmons' apparent lack of respect for his club.

The incident seemed to derail Wolves' charge somewhat after they had gone ahead in the 15th minute through Nakia Smith.

While just the one goal up they always appeared susceptible to a surprise attack from the bottom-placed side. And a man down that susceptibility was even more apparent.

Three minutes into the second-half Bascome's corner was cleared back to him and his raking shot brought a fine one-handed save from Troy Hall. Unfortunately for the 'keeper he was only able to palm the ball into the path of Yusef Pitt who made no mistake from close in.

Although Wolves had chances to retake the lead they never seemed comfortable in front of goal and it took a tactical switch by Brown to win the game.

Vince Minors was withdrawn and replaced by Webb and within seconds they were celebrating.

The substitute received the ball on the right hand side of the box and fired in a first-time shot that crashed against the underside of the bar before bouncing over the line.

Webb missed two more chances to make the game safe and Wolves were almost made to pay in the four minutes that O'Brien added on at the end.

First of all Pitt fired over and then substitute Mackie Crane committed the same crime from an even better position inside the box.

While Simmons' red card will doubtless be the talking point, there was some good news for Wolves with the appearance on the sidelines of Mark Ray who seems well on the way to recovery after being involved in a road traffic accident recently.

Asked when he might be fit to return he said: "In a week or two - I hope anyway."
