Blazers defender Trott on the mend after injury scare

Boulevard defender Taurianno Trott is recovering from a neck injury at home following a nasty spill during Blazers' 3-2 loss to Devonshire Cougars on Sunday.

Trott, 30, landed awkwardly on his head after challenging for a high ball in midfield along with Cougars' goal hero Reginald Baker late in the second half.

The Blazers player was lifted off the pitch on a stretcher and subsequently taken to hospital where x-rays later revealed that no serious damage had been suffered.

"Mr. Trott was admitted suffering from neck pains. He was given x-rays and a prescription for muscle pains in his neck and was then discharged," a hospital spokesperson told The Royal Gazette yesterday.

As Trott lay prone on a stretcher on the sidelines waiting for an ambulance to arrive at the ground, there had been concerns his injury was far more serious.

"He went up challenging for the ball and then landed upside down on his lower back and neck," recalled Boulevard manager Amon Brown.

"It wasn't a foul or nothing like that. Taurianno came from behind and the player (Baker) did not see him going up for the ball.

"But it did look very bad at first the way he landed and we decided best he be taken to hospital for further observation."

Trott also recalled Sunday's harrowing experience.

"The ball was bouncing and both of us were going for the ball and he (Baker) must have gotten under me somehow and I was high in the air. All I knew was that I landed in an awkward position," he said.

"I was very dizzy and could not move. I was out of breath at first and very dizzy. But it was something because I actually did a backward flip."

He added: "The back of my neck is still tight but I feel a bit better today. I can stand up but can't move my neck from side to side."

Trott will now miss Boulevard's league clash with Dandy Town at BAA Field this Saturday night.

"I don't think I'll be playing this week," he said. "I intend to take things day to day for now. And with only two matches remaining in the season this just might be it for me this season.

"But I am hopeful I can be back for the last game of the season (against Somerset Trojans)."
