Blazers gunning for more glory

Boulevard Blazers will be seeking for more glory when they take to the pitch in Sunday's Shield Competition final against arch-rivals Somerset Eagles.

After emphatically wrapping up their 2001/02 league campaign with a 4-1 dissection of St.David's on Sunday to remain unbeaten against all First Division opposition, Blazers will be hoping to cap things off by winning the coveted double.

And for first year coach John Rebello and company it's back to business as usual after Sunday's celebrations have muted.

"We can't take Eagles lightly, they are a great team," Rebello acknowledged, ahead of preparations for the Easter Sunday final. "They have played some great games this year and they have proven that they are ready to play in the Premier Division.

"The guys will be partying tonight (Sunday), but then it is back down to business."It's back to the basics after the partying is all over and hopefully come Sunday we can go out there and take care of business."

Blazers' outspoken stalwart Leroy Stevens remains was full of confidence and unlike the reserved Rebello, he chose instead, to go straight for the jugular.

"A win against Eagles would be the icing on the cake," he noted. "And the cake won't be complete without the icing and they are the icing".

Meanwhile, Eagles coach Albert Dowling is confident his team can rise to the occasion.

"I think that we are capable of pulling off a victory," he said. "The guys are well rested."

Dowling believes his side must not allow a repeat of Boulevard's title clinching 4-3 win over his team back on March 3.

"That defeat was mainly due to a mental lapse," he added. "We lost focus and didn't adhere to our game plan.

"We afforded them way to much space around our penalty area which allowed them to get back into the match. We should have put them away."

However, with those lessons learned, he also noted that it was time to move on and look ahead to this encounter.

"That's something that we recognised and acknowledged that we can't afford to do again on Sunday," he said.

"It should be a good match and I am looking forward to the occasion and the fans can definitely expect to see some exciting soccer."
