Blazers let it slip as Peppers strike late

Boulevard let go their grip on the Division One top spot when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamilton Parish at BAA Field yesterday.
"The guys worked hard today, I'm pleased with the result. However, I do feel that we should have capitalised on several of the late chances that came our way," said Peppers coach Alton Caisey afterwards.
Parish began the match in good fashion, taking the game to their opponents, but through their own lack of finishing in front of goal, they allowed Blazers to come into their own and eventually take the lead.
Sakai Crockwell was on hand to tap into the goal after a cross from out on the left went unchallenged in the area during the latter stages of the half.
The goal seemed to wakeup Parish and they almost equalised in the 40th minute when Jamie Smith's shot seemed to have crossed the goal-line. However, the strike was disallowed after referee Ralph Tumbridge conferred with his assistant.
Parish were given a one player advantage when Blazers' Vernon Eve received his marching orders from Tumbridge in the 55th minute for a second bookable offence.
During the afternoon the official reached into his pocket on seven occasions.
Parish, enjoying the lions' share of possession, were finally rewarded for their labours in the 85th minute when the official pointed to the spot after a handball in the box.
Damon Edwards made no mistake, despite persistent protests from Blazers players.
Other than that, Blazers had no one else to blame for the numerous chances they missed through a combination of miscommunication up front and wayward passing that belied their standing in the league. And in the end they were fortunate to leave the ground with a share of the spoils.
