Borden's back in
St.David's all-rounder Delyone Borden, the leading wicket taker in all forms of domestic cricket so far this season, has been invited back to train with the national squad having been axed earlier this year for non-attendance at training sessions.
The youngster was present at national squad training on Wednesday night at the National Sports Centre with national coach Mark Harper publicly welcoming him back into the fold during a talk to the players at the conclusion of the session.
Despite being removed from the squad list in the off-season, Borden has elbowed his way back into contention for a place in the team through sheer number of wickets ? including match figures of 13 for 140 against Western Stars two weeks ago.
Harper said yesterday that he and the selectors were "continuing to monitor" performances in league cricket this season ? essentially challenging those with national team aspirations to prove him wrong.
"We obviously are not taking our eyes off domestic cricket statistics," he said.
"Those who were taken off the list are still in our thoughts and it is up to them to do the business on the field."
Borden himself was clearly delighted that he is now back training among the Island's best having shrugged off a lingering back complaint which plagued his preparations throughout the winter.
"I'm very excited to be involved once again," he said.
"Obviously having been away for a while, I was a little apprehensive during my first session with everybody on Wednesday. But my back is no longer bothering me and I'm very happy with how things have turned out."
