Bray and Fisher hook final victory

Andy Bray continued his trek towards tennis immortality in Bermuda yesterday when he combined with Sasha Fisher to win the Mixed Doubles crown in the Argus Open with a three-set marathon 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Ashley Brooks and Jacob Trott last night.

Bray?s first ever mixed double win in Bermuda was the first of the three finals he is playing in during the third-ranking tournament of the year, and he and former Island Games gold medal winning partner Fisher proved too strong in an intense encounter at the WER Joell Stadium.

The turning point in the match came in the seventh game of the deciding set when Bray and Fisher saved fourth game points in breaking Brooks for a 4-3 lead and when Fisher held at love to take a 5-3 lead, the writing was then on the wall.

The match was somewhat of a preview for today?s action as they all face each other again with Brooks taking on second seed Fisher in the Ladies A final, while Bray, the top ranked player in the Argus Open and on the Island, facing second seed Trott in the Men?s A singles final.

In the other doubles match last night, the Senior Ladies Doubles, the unfancied pair of Gerri Swan and Shonette Wilson captured the title with a surprisingly easy straight sets 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sarah Cook and Zina Edwards.

Today?s action gets underway with a Ladies singles final at noon with the men?s championship match to follow.
