Bray takes on Chilean in Open final
Mouth-watering tennis is in store for fans this morning as the Island Construction Open concludes at Pomander Gate.
Having disposed of number two seed James Collieson 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in Thursday?s semi-final, Ben Ureta clashes with top seed Andy Bray for the Men?s A Singles title when action starts at 9.30 a.m.
English expatriate Bray, currently preparing to represent Bermuda at next month?s Island Games, can expect a torrid examination of his game from visiting Chilean Ureta.
Simultaneously, the blossoming Morgan Lightbourne will be seeking to upstage top seed Ashley Brooks for the Ladies? A Singles championship. The latter breezed into the final with a 6-3, 6-1 semi-final demolition of Liz Osborne while Lightbourne was made to work harder by Cayla Cross. However, after losing the first set, Lightbourne ultimately prevailed 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
By the time Ureta takes to the court today, he may already have one title under wraps as he and his girlfriend Zarah DeSilva advanced to yesterday?s Mixed Doubles finals, beating Gill Butterfield and Sam Maybury 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
The Ureta-DeSilva pairing were slated to take on Osborne and dethroned Men?s A singles titleholder Gavin Manders for the Mixed Doubles championship.
