Breaking News: Bermuda's women lose to Netherlands
One day after Bermuda's women cricketers were skittled out for 13 runs and then saw that score overhauled by South Africa in just four balls, they lost to the Netherlands by a heavy but more respectable 196 runs.
Opener Maryellen Jackson led Bermuda's scorers in their second World Cup qualifier in South Africa with 26 runs off 56 balls while Terry-Lynn Paynter and Nicole Jones chipped in with 16 each as Bermuda were bowled out for 85 in 36.5 overs.
Earlier, Bermuda contained the Dutch batswomen to 281-8.
The Dutch batted first after winning the toss and got off to a fast start, reaching 107-2 off their first 14 overs. But Bermuda fought back and economic bowling from Reuna Richardson (36 runs for one wicket) and Jackson (3 wickets for 46 runs) slowed down the run rate. Captain Helmien Rambaldo led the way for the Netherlands with 59.
Bermuda's women notched up another dubious achievement, however, surrendering 94 extras, or almost two an over, 81 of which were wides.
