Breaking News: Update Devonshire crowned open league champions
St.David's CC 181-8 Devonshire Rec. 106-4
Today's open league final between Devonshire Recreation Club and St.David's fizzled out to a tame draw at the National Sports Centre with the former being declared winners on bonus points.
Devonshire was awarded two bonus points for snatching eight St.David's wickets which proved decisive in the end as the islanders only received one batting point during their innings.
Each team was awarded four points for the draw, leaving Devonshire with six overall compared to St.David's' five.
Anchoring Devonshire to glory were Chris Foggo (30) and player-coach Ricky Brangman (37) who shared in an unbroken 65 run fifth wicket stand that knocked the wind completely out of the islanders' sails.
Earlier, Devonshire skipper Derrick Brangman claimed four for 36 off six overs of off break spin to lead his team's attack.
"This was a good team effort today. The guys really came to play and it was a good victory," Brangman commented.
Middle order bat Angelo Cannonier stroked an unbeaten 55 and Lionel Cann added 35, while in-form seamer Justin Pitcher seized two for 16 off ten overs in a losing cause for the islanders.
