Bridge retain Western Counties

Frequent downpours put paid to PHC?s attempts to wrest the Western Counties trophy from holders Somerset Bridge on Saturday, with only 22.3 overs of play possible at White Hill Field.

After plenty of rain overnight, the start of the game was delayed for close to two hours, before umpires Steven Douglas and Wally Manders decided the ground was fit for play at around 11.45 a.m..

Batting first, PHC were in a spot of bother at 66 for four when the heavens opened yet again ? with no play possible after that. Daniel Caines (14 not out) and Andre Manders (21 not out) were at the wicket for PHC when play was abandoned.

Bridge?s Denzel Dill and Corvet Lambert took two wickets apiece.

Champions Bridge owed their place in the final to a nail-biting two wicket win over a more-fancied Willow Cuts side two weeks earlier, successfully chasing down 154 for victory in 42 overs having at one stage found themselves 78 for five.
