Bromby in 13th overall

Sailing a brand new boat, Peter Bromby and Martin Siese are in 13th place after the first round of races in the Star European Spring Championship in Palma, Mallorca.

The Bermudian pair picked up the craft in Germany before heading to the regatta, writes Matt Westcott.

With inclement weather anticipated for today, the organisers opted to run two races yesterday instead of the planned one.

In the first the duo came in 16th and in the last they improved by one place, notching a 15th out of the field of 66.

"Unfortunately, the conditions did not allow us to have a whole lot of practice with the new boat," Bromby said. "We had half an hour before today's races and then today it was pretty windy."

Bromby was realistic about the day's events.

"I think on the whole we sailed half-way decent," he said.

"We are not going that fast and it will take us some time to get the new boat sorted. Really, what we need is some more moderate conditions."

The regatta continues through Sunday.
