Bromby third in cup regatta

Olympian Peter Bromby and his new companion on the water, Bill McNiven, picked up a creditable third overall in the Bacardi Cup yesterday after a slow start to the week.

A third-place finish yesterday to go with a win on Thursday elevated the former winner of the prestigious Star Class event to third overall with the father and son-in-law tandem of John Dane and Austin Sperry taking first place.

?The week got progressively better for us,? said Bromby, who finished seventh, fourth, 12th, first and third over the week and also was black-flagged on day three, a finish which was later discarded.

?It is what you expect with new crew but Bill is coming on really well and I am very happy to be sailing with him.?

Neither Martin Siese nor Lee White, Bromby?s more recent sailing companions, were available to compete due to work commitments.

Bromby and McNiven will also compete in Annapolis in the Spring Championships and are considering sailing together in the Worlds in California ? ?subject to the expense?.
