Bumper Bermuda entry for NY marathon

Bermuda will boast what will almost certainly be the largest entry per capita of any country at next month's popular New York Marathon.

Island athletes have had a strong presence in the Big Apple event for almost 30 years but this year a party of 62 local road runners will tackle the 26.2 mile race which winds through five New York's boroughs, starting at the Verrazano Bridge and finishing in Central Park.

The marathon, on November 3, is expected to attract a total entry of more than 25,000 runners.

Among the most experienced of the Bermuda athletes competing are Brett Forgesson, who represented the Island as a marathoner at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1994, Manuel Lopes, Harry Patchett, Lynn Patchett and Colin Swan.

Several athletes will be attempting the distance for the first time.
