(after extra time)

A goal on the stroke of regulation time by Keenan Burgess saved Premier Division Devonshire Colts from embarrassment in this FA Cup quarter-final clash at Lord's yesterday.

Until the diminutive midfielder came through to deliver the blow that pushed the tie into extra time and eventually earn Colts a replay, it looked as though the lowly First Division side were on their way to a huge upset victory.

With St. David's leading 2-1, centre-back Shannon Burgess started a move deep in his own half that resulted with Burgess scoring from close range.

Up until that point the Islanders' defence had performed admirably.

Robbed off what would have been their finest moment in an otherwise undistinguished season, St. David's will now have to reorganise and hope that they find Colts similarly as inept when the two meet again.

Colts, however, will be kicking themselves for not putting this contest out of reach in the first half. They certainly had enough chances to do just that.

But time and again they were denied by the home side's goalkeeper, Sidney Minors, who punched away a Dennis Zuill blast after just two minutes and then advanced off his line to block a point-blank shot from Aljame Zuill three minutes later.

These fine saves combined with others later in the half frustrated Colts who were shell shocked after 11 minutes when a goal by Otis Minors from a goalmouth scramble following a corner completely knocked them out of their rhythm.

The often scrappy game came to life after 46 minutes when Colts skipper Burgess whipped the ball home after the defence had trouble clearing a Quincy Aberdeen corner.

At that point it seemed Colts would take the initiative but St. David's weren't about to throw in the towel, showing plenty of fight and determination as they went in search of another goal.

And they finally got it in the 55th minute when a clearance by Kevin Bean in the Colts goal struck O.J. Minors and rebounded to Bayon Robinson who stroked the ball into an empty net to put them ahead 2-1.

Growing in confidence, the Islanders seized territorial advantage. Minors missed a chance after 57 minutes and the same player then watched as his thunderbolt drive from 20 yards after 77 minutes was pulled down by Bean.

Colts threatened occasionally with counter attacks but the home team's defence, marshalled by centre-backs Kuyan Franks and Milton Jones Jr., refused to yield until Burgess came up with the late equaliser.

Colts threatened more in extra time but there was no denying that St. David's deserved the replay.
