Busy time at Coral Beach
The annual Coral Beach Junior Tennis tournament saw a record 73 entries this week and close to 90 matches even though rain halted play on several days.
In the Boys Open Final, David Thomas overcame a spirited effort by Naim Azhar 6-3, 6-1. Azhar defeated Charles Skater and Thomas overcame Johnny Holland in the semis both in straight sets.
In the Girls Open, Catlin Gordon defeated a determined Cayla Cross 6-2, 6-2 in a match that saw Gordon display some of her hard hitting stokes learned while away at a tennis academy in Florida.
In the semis Cross won over Amanda Burns and Gordon beat Patricia Kempe both in straight sets.
In the Boys Under 14 Final, Kevin Caza played well to defeat lefty Freddie Wade 6-0, 6-3.
In the Boys Under 12 Final, Jack Keyes defeated Neal Towlson 6-2, 6-1.
In the Girls Under 14 Final, Catherine Cooke won over Zara Jekyll 6-0, 6-0. In the semis both Cooke and Jekyll won in straight sets.
In the Boys Under 10 Final, Oliver Lewis beat Chris Rego in three sets 2-4, 4-1, 5-3. In the Girls Under 10, there was a Round Robin and winning was Ciara Svenson followed by Tyler Smith as runner up.
The Coral Beach tournament was the final tournament on the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association calendar.
