Butler leading cup bid
Sports Minister Dale Butler leads a Bermuda delegation to Venue Summit II ? a meeting on the Cricket World Cup 2007 ? in Barbados this weekend.
Also representing the Island are Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) secretary Charlotte (Molly) Simmons, a member of the Bermuda Police Force (to focus on World Cup security issues) and an official from consultant firm Brailsford & Dunlavey.
Twelve of the 13 countries which are vying to host matches will meet World Cup authorities at Accra Beach Hotel. Venue Summit II is the opportunity for all bid committees to ask questions and raise issues and concerns before World Cup management and their Venue Assessment Team (VAT) regarding the Bid Book and the venue selection process.
Managing director of the Cricket World Cup 2007 Chris Dehring said Bid Committees were required to indicate by March 10 ? through a letter of intent ? whether they would continue as an official candidate country or if they would respectfully withdraw.
?We believe many Bid Committees and governments will use the information gathered at Venue Summit II to finalise their decision,? he added.
