Canaries' A team picked up their first win of the season on Sunday with a 4-0 shutout of Swifts.

Canaries looked confident against the young and rebuilding Swifts side as they quickly grabbed a couple of early short corners but failed to capitalise on them.

The Yellows played well as a team, effectively and consistently moving the ball up the sides of the pitch throughout the first half.

Swifts had a little fight in them, however, Brittany Uddin managing to break away into the opposing D and slotting the ball to Keisha Robinson who cracked a shot which just failed to hit the mark.

Canaries soon spirited the ball back into their opponents' half end and fared better when a goalmouth scramble drew the 'keeper out of the net and Karen Chan was in the right place at the right time to slot her shot home.

With the momentum tucked squarely in their skirts, Canaries proceeded to earn a couple of more short corners ? which missed the mark ? before Lisa DeSilva stepped up with a punishing shot to the backboard to remind everyone of why she is consistently at the top of the scoring tables.

Canaries were back again with a little over six minutes of play left in the half when new convert Laurel Powell, who had been working effectively along the left side of the pitch, pushed loose ball into the Swifts net.

Swifts grabbed a couple of short corners before the break and were unlucky not to score.

For the bulk of the second half, Swifts managed to shut down the Canaries forwards but couldn't put a finishing touch on anything anywhere near the goal.

Uddin broke away with the ball several times only to find the D empty of players to work with.

While Canaries earned a number of short corners in the second half, they failed to make them count which exposed a weakness in their game despite the positive scoreline.

Swifts were then unlucky to miss on a short corner they earned with 11 minutes left, Francesca Cacace narrowly missing the target.

The young squad continued to try and fight their way onto the scoreboard, however. They pulled a ball away from a Canaries short corner which had fallen into disarray and drove almost unchallenged up the middle.

Robinson fired off a shot but it went straight to the 'keeper's pads. Swifts kept the pressure up but couldn't find the scoring touch.

Canaries did, however, when Powell worked her magic up the left before feeding the ball to DeSilva who put away the game's sealing goal with just under four minutes left to play.

In other weekend results, Chameleons climbed to the top of the men's league with a 1-0 win over Rebels. Stevie Moreton hammered home the lone goal of the match late in the second half.

Chameleons' table jump was helped by Upstarts and Police Polecats, who played to a fiery 3-3 draw.

In the women's B league, Swallows put down the Wildcats 4-0 and Cardinals defeated the Ravens 1-0.
