Cann seals Trinidad sponsorship deal

Less than three months after signing a semi-professional contract with Bermuda Cricket Board, 2005 MVP Lionel Cann has landed himself a major sponsor.

From now until the conclusion of the 2007 World Cup, Cann will be fully kitted in Ramsingh Sports World (RSW) cricket gear, marketed by one of Trinidad?s leading sportswear merchants.

The Southampton Rangers and Bermuda all-rounder signed a contract last week with the Trinidad-based company, the first ever international cricketer to do so.understands Cann has already been paid up front to promote the company?s cricket gear over the next 11 months, and in addition stands to receive a percentage from all purchases.

?RSW cricket gear, which I now have exclusive rights to, is very popular in India,? said Cann, who has quickly earned the respect of Trinidadian bowling attacks with his explosive batting.

Earlier this year RSW cricket gear was upgraded to Test standard.

?The gear is first class and the bats are excellent,? added Cann, who has scored 80 runs from two turns at bat on the national team?s current training exercise in Trinidad.

The veteran all-rounder has also taken four wickets, including a best match haul of three for 33 against Clico Preysal Sports Club.

Cann was voted Bermuda?s MVP after consistent performances with both and ball last season. Now he?s bracing himself for what promises to be the busiest cricket season of his career.

Bermuda are scheduled to return to Trinidad next month for a series of official One-Day Internationals at Queen?s Park Oval against Zimbabwe and Canada and also tour England and Toronto this summer.

?I have been putting in a lot of work and also time,? said Cann. ?It?s going to be a long, long season of non-stop cricket from now to the World Cup.

?My goal is to try and learn something every day and work hard. And right now mentally and physically I think I?m getting better and better.?
