Cann sidelined after road crash
Top St. David's cricket all-rounder Lionel Cann escaped serious injury in a recent road accident that ruled him out of playing on the weekend and it remains to be seen how long he will be missing.
Team officials said they were unaware of his condition because they had not talked with him directly, but understood that the worst scenario would have him missing only a few games.
Lewis Foggo, chairman of the St. George's Cricket Club selection committee said that the accident had prevented the player, who represented the club in Cup Match last year, from attending a special meeting for Cup Match players last week.
However, according to Foggo, the player had been in contact with the club and informed them that he was unable to attend because of the accident.
"Actually I don't know much about the accident, but he did call me to said that he had a lot of road rash, a scraped-up face and a swollen knee. However, he didn't say how long he would be out of cricket, only that it prevented him from attending our meeting.
"But I certainly didn't get the impression that it will jeopardise his chances of playing Cup Match, that's for sure," said Foggo.
While Cann wasn't among those who turned up for the meeting, called for all prospects wishing to challenge for Cup Match this year, the chairman said that the turnout was "decent" and reckoned that his club would have a talented pool of players from which to make their selection in a serious bid to regain the cup.
