Bermuda?s top squash player Nick Kyme has been given a financial boost thanks to AT&T Wireless.

The 22 year-old, who is currently in San Francisco preparing for the Tennyson Fog City Open, recently submitted a comprehensive sponsorship proposal to a number of leading players in the Island?s corporate sector, asking for financial assistance to allow him to live and train overseas.

AT&T?s contribution is believed to be in the region of $1,000 plus free cellular phone usage.

Kyme, however, who has worked his way up to number 85 in the world following a year and a half on the professional circuit, is seeking something in the region of $35,000, to cover the cost of extensive travel, rental accommodation and a top class coach.

Speaking to The Royal Gazette earlier this month, Kyme admitted that he had ?gone as far as he can go? in Bermuda, and following the advice of world number four and part-time Island resident David Palmer, was very keen to establish a training base abroad.

?I have really enjoyed living and training at home over the last year and the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association have been tremendously supportive,? he said.

?But if I?m going to have a realistic chance of making it into the world?s top 30, which is my real goal for now, I have to place myself in a more competitive environment where I?m being seriously challenged on a daily basis.

?I?ve got a few options available to me in terms of places to go and coaches to train with and it is just a matter now of seeing if somebody is willing to come forward and support me.?
